Apple Iphone Clones

Written by oneself on 7:41 PM

By:Elaina

iPhone by Apple has created a furore in the world mobile market. The brand which was till now synonymous with world class laptops, the iPod and other electronic gadgets has now stepped into the ever growing and competitive mobile phone market. Every announcement by Apple is waited for with bated breath and the announcement of Apple iPhone generated the same reaction and anticipation from the mobile enthusiasts the world over.

The release of Apple iPhone was hugely welcomed. Its success was almost guaranteed and when the promised got developed it reflected in the millions of sales that the phone marked in its introductory phase itself. Success breeds clones and the same holds true for the iPhone. miniOne by Meizu is one such handset that looks almost similar to the phone in question. Even the manufacturers themselves might have to strain really hard to spot the differences, if any, between these two handsets. One conspicuous difference—the 16 GB memory which is double of what the iPhone has to offer.

IP200 is another contender in the race. In looks, it is similar, but some differences in terms of features and applications are definitely there. One major difference however is the added keypad, as the touchscreen in the phone is optional.

The other iPhone clones already pervading or soon to be released includes the likes of Teclast T59, LG Prada KE850, ASUS Aura and iSoftPhone. Creating clones is a different matter, but being able to elicit the same response and success is not too easy a task. Apple has a brand name, its products are highly anticipated in the world market and are accepted with open arms even before the initial reviews begin to pour in. The clones might emulate the design, the features and specifications, but the brand value is something exclusive to the Apple.

Setting Up A Wireless Router

Written by oneself on 6:20 AM

Using a wireless router makes computing life much more enjoyable. Why confine yourself to work on the computer in the same location you took it out of the box? Setting up a wireless router is easy and allows you the freedom to access the Internet, files, printers, plus much more, from virtually any location in your house or yard. Before you shake your head about setting up a wireless router on your own, trust me, if I can do it, anyone can.

Here are some simple steps for setting up your wireless router.

Select the correct wireless router for your needs.

If you walk into your nearest Best Buy or other computer store, you will see they have a wide variety of routers available. There are basically (3) wireless networking technologies on the market today; 802.11a, 802.11b, and 801.22g. So what are the differences between these wireless technologies?

802.11a wireless protocol is the oldest version of wireless networking technologies currently available. While you may find 802.11a wireless hardware at discounted prices, I would strongly urge you to avoid them. 802.11a is limited in range and capacity versus 802.11b and 802.11g. So why set up your first wireless network with the oldest technology.

802.11b wireless protocol (11Mbs) is by far the most common wireless technology in use today. If you select this wireless protocol, you will be fine. But why not start with the latest and greatest wireless protocol currently available?

802.11g is the best wireless technology on the market and all new computers with built-in wireless cards utilize this protocol. 802.11b wireless protocol was superceded by backwards compatible 802.11g (54Mbs). What this means is that if you have an 802.11b card on some of your computing devices, you can use an 802.11g wireless router without the need to replace your wireless card. If you have the option, I would strongly recommend purchasing 802.11g cards for your computers as well to get the maximum benefits of this wireless network technology.

Connecting your wireless router

Before starting, be sure you have a paper copy of all instructions or the router manual in front of you. Sounds simple, I know, but you would be surprised how many people neglect this basic step. Ok, let's get started!

The first step will be to power down your DSL or cable modem. This will be accomplished by unplugging the devices from the electrical outlets.

Next, connect the wireless router to your modem. I would recommend keeping the distance between the router and modem as close as possible. I have both modem and wireless router setting side by side on my desk.

Included with the wireless router, you should have a short cable. This is your network cable. Plug the network cable into the wireless router in the port labeled INTERNET, WAN OR WLAN. This designation varies depending on the brand of wireless router you purchased. It does not matter which end of the network cable you connect to the router, since the same type of connector is used on both ends.

Once you have connected the network cable to your wireless router, connect the other end of the cable into your modem. Your modem will only have one port available. You will hear a "click" when a secure connection has been established.

You can now re-insert the cable which provides your Internet access back into your DSL or cable modem.

At this point, you will want to power up your modem. The modem should always be powered up first. Allow a few moments for the Internet connection to synchronize with the modem.

It is now time to configure your wireless router. Temporarily disconnect the network cable from the router and modem. Once you have completed this, connect the network cable to any port on the wireless router not labeled as INTERNET, WAN OR WLAN. You will probably have at least 4 open ports; any one will do. Next, connect the other end of the network cable to your computer. This may seem confusing, however, you need a direct connection between the router and computer to permit configuration.

On your computer, open up an Internet browser and enter the address which corresponds to your specific make of wireless router.

ROUTER ADDRESS USERNAME PASSWORD

3Com 192.168.1.1 admin admin

D-Link 192.168.0.1 admin

Linksys 192.168.1.1 admin admin

Microsoft Broadband 192.168.2.1 admin admin

Netgear 192.168.0.1 admin password

Once you have entered the address into your browser, you will be prompted to enter a username and password. Reference the chart for your respective information. While in the configuration mode, you will have the option to change your password, which I strongly suggest.

Next, you will need to set your network id or SSID. This name does not have to be lengthy, but choose something that is unique and but easy enough for you to remember.

Protecting your network. You will also have the option to either secure your network or leave it "open". By leaving your network "open", anyone within range of your wireless router signal will be able to access your network. If you live in a location in a development or apartment, there is a good chance someone will be riding your network..using your Internet access for free and degrading your access quality. It is a good rule of thumb to secure access to networks and computers whenever possible.

To secure your network, select the WEP tab or option. WEP stands for Wireless Encryption. You will be prompted to enter a password or passphrase. We have already addressed changing your administrator password from the default, so let's move on. Be sure to select Apply or OK after making your selections.

Disconnect the network cable from your computer, and reconnect as before. One end of the network cable goes into the port on the wireless router marked INTERNET, WAN, or WLAN, and the other end connects to your DSL or cable modem.

After a few brief moments, an icon should appear on your desktop alerting you a wireless network has been detected. Right click on the icon and select "View Available Wireless Networks".

If you do not see your network, click on the Refresh button from the menu. Once your network is visible, click on it.

If you have WEP protected your wireless network, you will be prompted to enter your password or passphrase. If you have chosen to leave your network unprotected, you will be cautioned that you are attempting to access an unsecured network. Select your network and press "Connect".

Which UPS Is Best For Critical Technology Deployments?

Written by oneself on 6:11 AM

By Mark Parson

UPS technology varies within manufacturer product ranges and much has been documented on the right UPS type to use and in particular On Line vs. Line Interactive technology. The key issue is much of this research is compiled by manufactures working on controlled laboratory conditions, which far exceed those of real world deployments.

The value of On Line UPS technology to provide protection is well documented and well founded and is not generally known that improvements have been made in On Line UPS design. GE has recently released in Australia its new VH UPS which is the first UPS in its (700va to 3kVA) class to have a true static bypass. This feature allows continuous power to be supplied to load equipment in the event of UPS failure an essential element of critical technology design.

By using N+1 and parallel solution design with surge protection and by pass features continuous quality power can be delivered 24 / 7. There is no doubt that service delivery is a key requirement for government and corporate agencies and the highest possible levels of availability are required. On Line double conversion offers the best levels of protection and availability and based on comparisons against other UPS technology it has a number of key advantages including protection against brown out or common utility power sags.

There are some companies that supply total design, install and long term service agreements tailored to meet client requirements and cost effective pre packaged commissioning and service options flexible with best levels of support.

Viewty LG KU990 - Better Than The iPhone?

Written by oneself on 4:36 AM

With all the hype of the current release of the Apple iPhone you would be forgiven for not being familiar with LG’s latest offering, the LG KU990 Viewty. As with the iPhone handset the Viewty allows you to navigate its menus and features with the touch of a finger. But LG have added a few features to the Viewty that the iPhone is sorely missing. Could this touch screen technology underdog really be better than the iPhone?

The LG KU990 Viewty is equipped with a 5-megapixel camera including a xenon flash and auto focus which puts Apple iPhone’s 2-megapixal offering to shame. The camera can also be switched to capture high speed motion footage and includes a unique feature that allows you to watch the video replay in slow motion. Combine this with the option to automatically upload to YouTube and you can plainly see why the Viewty is genuine competition for the iPhone.

The Viewty allows you to browse the Internet through a fast GPRS or 3G Internet connection with an innovative web browser that allows you to zoom in on areas of web pages and then use your finger to drag the page across the screen. This function is useful as the handset screen is small and trying to read a full webpage without the zoom would be almost impossible. Surprisingly the Viewty is missing a Wi-Fi option, a feature which has become very popular and almost a ‘must have’ on new mobile phones as Internet browsing becomes more popular.

The onboard 170MB memory is generous but the microSD memory can only be expanded to 2GB which is really poor when you consider that the Viewty is going to be used for capturing high quality photographs and video. In comparison with the iPhone’s standard 8GB the Viewty falls short by a long way.

The onscreen buttons and menus are easy to navigate and the photo gallery neatly allows you to drag and drop photos as if you were shuffling through a bunch of photographs laid out on a table. As with the iPhone there are some traditional buttons located under the screen that allow you to quickly answer calls or direct you to the main menu. There is also a selection of buttons on the side of the handset which allow easy use of the camera options.

At 103.5 x 54.4 x 14.8 mm the Viewty handset is smaller than the iPhone but slightly thicker. The battery life is good for a regular phone but with the other technologies included it will be necessary to regularly recharge especially if you have set the phone to vibrate each time you select a button on the touch screen.

In conclusion the Viewty is not just a clone of the iPhone. Yes the iPhone will be a lot more popular and will sell many more units due to a frantic advertising campaign and brand awareness. Yes the iPhone does look beautiful and operate a lot slicker than the Viewty. Yes the Viewty is missing Wi-Fi, but there are a few features that will help the Viewty compete with the iPhone. It has a far superior camera which includes video capture, the Viewty is open to networks other than O2 and the handset costs are likely to be significantly less than the Apple iPhone. The Viewty is kind of like the footballer playing for a small team who scores a spectacular goal but is overshadowed in the media by the big team player’s strike.

Common Causes of Data Loss leading to the need for USB Data Recovery

Written by oneself on 7:44 PM

People are buying various forms of storage these days. Most of the devices people use to store data today come in the form of flash memory devices such as USB thumb drives, or USB flash memory. These devices use NAND flash to store data. These devices are small and compact and very easy for consumers to move around. Preventing the need for USB data recovery is what consumers really need to focus on.

People fail to back up these storage devices. Consumers need to be cautious when storing data as the devices that the data is stored on tend to fail with no warning. Many of the flash memory devices also known as thumb drives or USB sticks fail with zero warning. These devices fail for many reasons. Some devices fail due to bad workmanship and others fail due to improper use. The most common failures are from obvious damage such as plugging a USB flash memory device into a laptop of desktop computer and banging it by accident causing the port of the device to become broken, bent or damaged.

Bad workmanship issues can cause USB flash memory storage devices to stop working at any moment. Manufacturers are constantly using cutting edge parts combined with outdated parts. When a manufacturer can save a few cents using say one type of circuit as opposed to the next more durable circuit on a USB memory device they will. For consumers this causes devices to fail faster and more easily.

When end users of USB thumb drives unplug devices during a read or write function the device can fail almost permanently. Devices that are made with proven parts will tend to function normally if the device is unplugged during a read or write functions. Some of the error messages some might encounter follow.

Common Windows USB Error Messages - USB Device Not Recognized by Windows - USB Error Messages

· Status: Unreadable, Unknown Device

· USB Device Not Recognized Window

· Unknown Device

· USB Unknown Device

· USB Device Problem

· USB Device Not Recognized in Windows

· USB Device Not Recognized by Windows

· USB Device Not Recognized

· USB Device Not Recognized Windows XP

Many students and teachers use USB data storage devices at school or when on the road. Many of the people that loose data are students, professors or teachers. The best method is simple, back up your device onto another medium such as your home laptop or desktop. Western Digital sells an external 750 GB hard drive. The Western Digital My Book Essential 750GB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive that plugs in either by USB or fire wire. The lowest cost as of 8-13-07 was $199.99 at Bestbuy.com. We at eProvided.com use this company’s storage product as a backup device for our own clients.

We have also tested the My Book World Edition II but advise all consumers to stay away from this unless you know exactly what you want to use it for. As this device only connects via your Ethernet port the data transfer time is terribly slow. The faster the backup device you use the faster and more effective your backups will be. We also tested many free data backup software programs. Many we would never use. The one that comes free with the Western Digital My Book did not fail once. This actually shocked us as so many of them work 50% of the time. Take it from a company that performs many USB data recovery issues daily, this one is huge on brownie points.

So to wrap this up; properly back up your important data. Use the proper software to make appropriate backups and always buy brand name USB storage devices. Non brand name devices tend to lead to faulty circuits and expensive USB data recovery. Be sure that your friends, colleagues and relatives read this story to prevent them from becoming a part of permanent data loss.

If you are an end user and require USB data recovery there are only a very few companies that can handle advanced USB data recovery. If you have error messages such as “USB device not recognized" or “USB unknown device" then you have the option of calling eProvided.com data recovery toll free at 1-866-857-5950. If your data is lost and you need the data back there is some remarkable technical experience available to you or your company.

DDR, DDR-2 and Other Computer Memory Acronyms

Written by oneself on 6:07 PM

Any computer that you bought around the year 2000 or later uses a type of dynamic random access memory (DRAM) known as double data rate, referred to as DDR. It refers to memory in which two data items are transmitted with each clock signal. It replaced single data rate SDRAM. (Synchronous DRAM.) DDR memory is also synchronous, and you will sometimes see DDR memory referred to as DDR SDRAM.

DDR also replaced RDRAM (Rambus DRAM), so called because Rambus Corp. developed the standard. Rambus memory offered memory bandwidth substantially greater than SDRAM. However, RDRAM was always more expensive than SDRAM, and the lower cost and equivalent throughput of DDR eventually canceled out any performance advantages offered by RDRAM.

In 2003, a new generation of DDR memory, DDR-2, appeared along with new Intel Pentium 4 processors. Because AMD Athlon 64 CPUs had integrated memory controllers, DDR2 support didn't appear in AMD processors until the launch of a new motherboard lineup in 2006 that used the AM2 socket.

DDR-2 differs from DDR in that the front side bus carrying the data runs twice as fast as the actual memory clocking speed. To whit, older DDR memory that is clocked at 200 MHz runs the I/O front bus at 200 MHz and can transfer data at 3.2 GBps. This is because the clock speed determines the speed of the I/O bus- that's why it's called synchronous DRAM.

At the same time, DDR-2 memory running at the same 200 MHz runs the I/O front bus at 400 MHz. Each I/O bus clock cycle still carries two pieces of data, but the increased bus clock effectively doubles the maximum throughput of the system to 6.4 GBps.

The various flavors of DDR-2 are confusing because the standards group for the semiconductor industry, JEDEC, has issued variants of the specifications. For example, some high-performance memory is rated to run at specs beyond the official JEDEC rating.

To hit those higher specs, computer users have to go into the BIOS to increase voltage beyond the standard 1.8 volts. When you increase the voltage you increase the throughput. We've seen people buy DDR-2 memory that manufacturers say can run at up to 1066 MHz and be surprised that it runs only at 667 Mhz speeds because memory is shipped at officially rated speeds.

At our shop, we've seen DDR-2 max out at 800 Mhz speeds at the rated 1.8 volts, yet there is an effort to create a JEDEC standard for DDR-2-1066. Some major RAM manufacturers recently announced that they are manufacturing DDR-2-1066 chips that can run at 1.8 volts.

Because not all motherboards can support higher clock speeds, the memory manufacturers need to be sure that even higher-end memory will run at standard voltages and speeds, because they don't know in what motherboard the memory modules will end up. Many motherboards are not made to be “overclocked” to higher clock rates or voltages. All this means that you need to be careful with what type of memory upgrade you buy for your machine, and if there is any confusion at all to check with an expert in the industry.

Why just make calls from your computer? You can also transfer files, whilst on the phone.

Written by oneself on 7:42 AM

Making phone calls from your computer is no longer a nifty trick known only by the computer-literate minority. Most people have computers or at least access to one and even without a computer, you can now make Skype calls through a mobile phone. This new technology bridges the gap between Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and the mobile phone network.

With progress happening so fast, it is hardly surprising that you can transfer files from your computer to a friend’s whilst you are speaking on the ‘phone’ (it is always a slightly strange experience talking at your computer and hearing a familiar voice radiating out). The advantage of the Google Talk or Skype file transfer service is that both offer a quick, easy, peer-to-peer service with no restriction on the file type or size.

This last point is important because with the improvement in digital camera technology, an increasing number of people have very high quality images that they would like to share. It is frustrating to have to send a number of emails to make sure you don’t exceed you account limit; even more frustrating if you exceed that limit and have your email fail to send. The YouTube generation is also comfortable and confident about producing videos for public consumption. Sending these by email is not always easy, but Google Talk suggests that they can send these without any fuss. Near instantaneous delivery is also an attractive trait, if your curiosity about a certain photograph has been ignited.

That’s really where file transfer comes into its own. Google talk or Skype file transfer allow for spontaneity, and caters for the sending of information directly pertinent to your conversation. If you are talking about a recent trip, then what better way to brief a friend than to send a photo? Of course, you can do so much using email, but what you cannot really do is provide a commentary and – particularly – answer questions. It may not be flattering to be asked if the photo is the wrong way round, but at least you can try and explain how exactly you were trying to be ‘artistic’.

Business conversations can also be greatly aided by the ability to send documents instantaneously. If a colleague suddenly realises that they need to quickly scan over a page or so from a report before meeting a client, you can send it to them immediately.

Although file transfers using providers like Google Talk and Skype are unlikely to lead to the death of email, they may yet conquer a substantial corner of the file transfer market. The only downside seems to be that you can’t ‘accidentally’ delete your cousin’s holiday snaps if they are also on the phone explaining in detail what you can see.

Finding the best web hosting for your website or blog

Written by oneself on 2:42 AM

by Darren Lambert

Choosing the best web hosting company for your website or blog is critical. Downtime or lack of configuration, which can occur with the low quality hosting providers, will be severely detrimental to the success and performance of your website.

It can be difficult to choose which is the right web hosting package for your website or blog. With so many PHP hosting companies advertising their services on the internet which one do you choose? If you do experience problems with your web hosting you'll have to move to a new host, which is time consuming and often expensive in downtime.

I compared the 10 leading web hosting companies and created a top 10. See which are the best web hosting companies today.

Here are the important things to compare amongst web hosting packages.

Uptime

This is the amount of time that the web server will be able to deliver your website to readers. 99% is ideal, cheaper hosting often offers less.

Disk space

This is the amount of space you are allocated on the web server to store all of your files. Media rich websites can often use up disk space quickly. Ensure your potential PHP hosting package offers enough disk space for your current website, and its future growth.

Bandwidth

Bandwidth is the total amount of data that your website can deliver in a single month. If you exceed the bandwidth limit your account may be suspended until you buy more bandwidth, or upgrade your account. Ensure you select a hosting package that allows you enough bandwidth for your current traffic, and for the foreseeable future.

Databases

PHP hosts set a limit on the number of database you can use. If you are using a Web2.0 application, or any other type of PHP application than uses MySql databases, ensure the hosting package has sufficient databases for your needs.

Domains

Most people use one domain on a single hosting account. However, some people like to run several websites, or domains, from a single hosting account. If you intend to do this ensure the hosting package allows add-on and parked domains.

Fantastico

Fantastico is a system that quickly and easily installs popular Web2.0 applications into your hosting package. Most hosts include Fantastico, which allows you to easily install WordPress, Drupal and other blog and CMS systems.

Taking the time to choose the correct web hosting package can save you a great deal of time and money as your website or blog grows. Compare the best web hosting companies today by clicking here.

Free Web Servers-Can You Really Get The Service You Need Without Paying?

Written by oneself on 2:34 AM

by Josh Neumann

Believe it or not, today there are many companies that will offer you free Web servers to help you advance your business. These are becoming very popular, especially among beginning Internet marketers, because web hosting is not something that most people really want to think about too much. Therefore, free hosting and web servers sound like a great idea to most people. Keep in mind, while this can work for you, if you plan to allow business on the Internet, you really should not focus on free servers.

Very simply, free Web servers companies usually do not give you much space on their server, and why would they? Very simply, if you aren't paying them, it really doesn't do them much good to give you space on their server unless you provide some benefit to them; in this case, most free servers companies will require you to include a banner ad on your website linking back to them.

They figure they will get some traffic this way, and therefore they will get some benefit out of the relationship. However, you certainly can't plan a getting a lot of space in their server without paying any money.

Also, the free Web server companies generally don't provide you with great customer service, and here's another thing to keep in mind. Your website will be on a server with many others, and so if somebody on the server does something to mess it up, you can plan on your website being messed up as well. If the server crashes, your website will go down as well, because it only has a small portion of the server dedicated to it.

Also, if your website get a lot of traffic or has a lot of pages, and therefore will take up less space, you definitely cannot get a free server. Very simply, with a small server space will get, this is only good for a very small website that doesn't get a lot of traffic. This is great if you are a beginning internet marketer or simply run a hobby based website; not if you plan on either having a large website or a lot of traffic coming to it. This will simply take up too much space on the companies server, and they will not allow your site to stay on unless you pay.

The bottom line is, if you plan a doing a lot of business online, free Web servers probably are not a good idea for you. Yes, you can save some money, but the amount of revenue you will lose out in the long run is simply not worth it.

Should I Upgrade to Vista or Leopard or Not?

Written by oneself on 2:23 AM

by: Larry Spinak

Both Microsoft and Apple have released new versions of their operating systems (OS for short, and you know how we nerds love our acronyms). The Operating System , by the way, is the main program that runs the show. It’s what you see when you’ve turned the computer on, before you go on the internet or open your email or do anything else. It’s the master control program. Most PCs run a version of Microsoft’s operating system called Windows XP. Windows is so ubiquitous on PCs that the operating system is almost synonymous with the computer. The new version is called Windows Vista, or Vista for short.

Over in the Macintosh universe, the operating system is called OSX (as in Roman Numeral X and pronounced Oh Ess Ten). Each new iteration of OSX bumps up the version a little bit. The old version was designated as 10.4, and the new one is 10.5. However, Apple nicknames each version after a jungle cat. It’s a marketing thing. The old one was called Tiger, and the new one is called Leopard. That’s the name you’ll hear bandied about.

I’m not going to get technical here, have an in-depth discussion of the individual new features in each OS, or talk about the relative merits of the two competing systems. If you’re interested in a more technical discussion, I encourage you to check out this wonderful new thing called the Internet, where truckloads of informational treasure awaits.

The big question on everybody’s mind is “Should I upgrade?" I want to take a pragmatic, expansive approach to the subject. My guiding rule (I wish I could claim authorship, but I’m pretty sure somebody else thought of it first) is: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it .

Don’t upgrade if:

A. Your computer is more than two years old. Everything may work fine , but the older the computer gets, the more likely it is that the new OS will overtax you computer’s abilities. Computer specifications change and improve very quickly, and yesterday’s powerhouse is often today’s doorstop.

B. You’re happy. If your current setup meets your needs, don’t mess with it. If the way things are working suits you just fine, leave it alone. Getting everything to behave the way you like it is a delicate balance, and you shouldn’t go rocking the boat, which could stir up the hornet’s nest and wake the sleeping dog.

Consider upgrading if:

A. You’re a daredevil, an early adopter, or your last name is Jones, and you need to stay ahead so that other people have trouble keeping up with you.

B. The new operating system contains a feature that you genuinely need or really want. For instance, both new systems contain a simplified built-in method for backing up. If this is really important to you, you may wish to consider making the leap. I don’t want to downplay the benefits of a new OS. They often have many new features that are really nifty, and the designers have thought of improved ways of doing things that should be easier to use.

Please bear in mind that brand-spanking-new operating systems are usually pushed out the door before they’re entirely finished. Most everything should work most of the time, but there will still be tiny glitches and things that need to be resolved. As time goes by, they’ll work out the kinks and things will run smoother. This also gives the manufacturers of printers and digital cameras and other devices you attach to your computer time to make sure that their products run properly with the new OS, and to update the software that comes with your device, if necessary. Six months to a year is usually the right amount of time for everybody to smooth out the rough edges of a new operating system.

If and when you purchase a new computer, it will come with the most recent version of the operating system already on it.

For those hearty souls who do want to upgrade, here’s some advice:

There are two general kinds of upgrades. There’s the kind where you install the new system over the old one. All your stuff stays more or less the same, but you’ve got a new version of the OS in place. This method of upgrading is the most common, and the most convenient. It is also widely considered by computer repair personnel to be THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL. Even if the upgrade seems to go smoothly, there are always things going on under the hood that you can’t see. These little things tend to accumulate until they reach a level that starts to affect system performance, and then they are very hard to fix. Like termites in the walls, your computer will continue to operate normally for awhile, until one day, the house falls down around you.

The other upgrade method is called a “clean install." It takes a little more work up front, but should save you a great deal of aggravation in the long run. First, you back up everything to an external drive. Then you entirely wipe the computer’s internal drive, and install a fresh, pristine copy of the new operating system onto your computer. Next, move your data back onto the old computer, a bit at a time, making sure that things are running smoothly as you go. Sounds like a pain, and it is. But you’ll be glad you went to the trouble.

Google Answers Cell Phone Rumors With ‘Android’ Mobile Phone System

Written by oneself on 1:12 AM

by: Stephany Springer

Google did not announce the release of a GPhone today, but instead announced something unprecedented in the United States ever before. Google announced the creation of Android, the first open and comprehensive platform for mobile devices. Google Inc., T-Mobile, HTC, Qualcomm, Motorola and others have collaborated on the development of Android through the Open Handset Alliance, a multinational alliance of technology and mobile industry leaders.

So what does that mean for the future of cell phones?

Starting mid-way through 2008. Americans will be able to use cell phones like never before. They only thought the Apple Iphone was innovative. Cell phones, running with Android, will be the fastest, most innovating of their time. Google’s press release said that over three billion people carry a cell phone. However, the lack of a collaborative effort has made it a challenge for developers, wireless operators and handset manufacturers to respond as quickly as possible to the ever-changing needs of savvy mobile consumers. Through Android, developers, wireless operators and handset manufacturers will be better positioned to bring to market innovative new products faster and at a much lower cost. The end result will be an unprecedented mobile platform that will enable wireless operators and manufacturers to give their customers better, more personal and more flexible mobile experiences.

Why will this be successful?

Besides name recognition, Google is doing something never done before. How you benefit is that with this program, you more than likely will not have to buy a new phone. It can be put on existing phones. It's supposed to take what the iphone did in terms of web surfing and speed and take it even further. Most of the phones now suck when it comes to the Internet. The Iphone made it much better, android is supposed to be even faster, although u will have to run thru Google to get anywhere.

So why did Google not release a Gphone?

According to Google’s Director of Mobile Platforms Andy Rubin this is a more ambitious move. We see Android as an important part of our strategy of furthering Google's goal of providing access to information to users wherever they are,” he said. “We recognize that many among the multitude of mobile users around the world do not and may never have an Android-based phone. Our goals must be independent of device or even platform. For this reason, Android will complement, but not replace, our longstanding mobile strategy of developing useful and compelling mobile services and driving adoption of these products through partnerships with handset manufacturers and mobile operators around the world.”

I personally think this is an awesome move for Google. The cell phone market is over crowded as it is. This gives Google the opportunity to be a key player on every cell phone. Also, imagine the increase in ad revenue as we now can market straight to the phone. Imagine the benefits for us as the consumer-faster service, tailored regional ads, Google maps and locations devices, cheaper service, etc.

Goodbye Iphone! Hello Google Android! Now something I can afford that I can benefit from on the phone I want to use!

Small Notebook Computers: Who Are They For And How Do They Compare To Desktops?

Written by oneself on 6:44 AM

Julie Peterson

Small Notebook Computers are Becoming Increasingly Common

Small notebook computers are the must-have accessory for many college students and business people today. They look cool and are very useful at the same time. Nowadays, many houses are not replete without a mobile wireless notebook computer or two that can be taken all over the house for gaming, homework, email, and even TV and DVD watching. The new influx of smaller notebook computers makes all this easier in that everyone has less weight to tote around. We have learned with cell phones that smaller is not always better, so it is important to know whether or not the small notebook computer you are buying will be able to function in the capacities you require.

In addition, small notebook computers are ideal for those who travel and need to bring their computers with them. A small notebook computer's edge in both small size and low weight makes it the perfect fit for supreme ease of portability.

Small Notebook Computers Are Smaller and Lighter

To make their overall size smaller, it stands to reason that the components of small notebook computers are much smaller than their desktop or even regular laptop counterparts. Many small notebook computers come with LCD screens that range from ten to eleven inches, although some have screens even smaller than this. Thickness is another factor in a small notebook computer's overall small-ness. Thicknesses of less than one inch are common in today's small notebook computer market, which is seeing greater demand than ever.

Many value or desire small notebook computers not only because of their diminutive size, but also because of their significantly lighter weight as compared to regular laptop computers. Small notebook computers tend to range between five and seven pounds, although the lightest model weighs in at a mere three pounds.

Things to Keep in Mind when Considering a Small Notebook Computer

If you are wavering between a small laptop computer and handheld devices such as phones or MP3 players that offer some of their capabilities, keep in mind that screen resolution is far better on computers. This makes browsing the internet, keeping up with email and the like much easier, and in the long run will save you both time and energy.

However, remember that although they are smaller and lighter weight than other laptops, carrying around a small notebook computer still adds weight to your load, especially if you also carry an adapter or an extra battery along with it. In addition, because everything about them is small and light, small notebooks tend to be more fragile than other laptop computers. Also keep in mind that working on a small notebook computer, though vastly easier than trying to perform similar tasks on handheld devices is not quite as convenient as doing them on their larger laptop cousins.

It's good to know, though, that what small notebook computers may have to sacrifice in durability and ease of use, they make up for in keeping pace with other computers' hard drive capacities: small notebook computers come with hard drives of 160GB or more. In addition, making sure your small notebook computer is equipped with Bluetooth technology will assure that you're ready for up-and-coming technology.

Get a Free Laptop - Truth or Myth?

Written by oneself on 4:05 AM

By Alexandre So

Recently CNN interviewed an owner of the free laptop website. They confirmed a website was not another scam but the real deal. Although only available to USA residents, the website does give away laptops for free, or almost.

So how does the whole "Get a Free Laptop" system work? It's actually very simple. Once you're at their website, you have to choose a laptop you want and fill out the e-mail address field. Next you will have an option of filling out a quick short 1 page survey. This step is optional.

Then, you will be offered many different memberships and trials, most of these are free for a week or so, with a possibility of cancellation without a fee, some offers require you to make a purchase costing a dollar or two. In order to get a free laptop you will have to complete 2 silver offers, 2 gold offers and either a) 6 platinum offers or b) Have 20 offers completed by people you refer. Please take note; you will have to do either "a" or "b", not both.

When the required steps are completed, your laptop is on its way. Make sure you provided the correct address, PO boxes are not acceptable.

So where does the actual laptop come from? The owner of the website receives a decent amount of money from the advertiser for each offer you complete. Why does the advertiser pay so much money for it? Well, when you complete an offer, even free trials, you become a potential client for the advertiser. The whole "get a free laptop" system is a win-win-win deal for you, the website owner and the advertiser.

Beware, some of the Free Laptop sites are scams, and will never send you a laptop. If a website doesn't provide you with their contact information - it is scam. The site should also offer a possibility of verifying your gift status. You will need this, to make sure you completed all the offers required and that the laptop was shipped to you.

Do you want a FREE laptop? This Website was seen on CNN and NBC as a legit Free Laptop site! Click here to find out more!

Causes of data corruption

Written by oneself on 6:27 AM

by Sandy Cosser

Computers are very fickle machines, as we all know, they can be sturdy and reliable in the most trying times. You can drop them and kick them and spill coffee all over them and they won't be fazed at all and one day an ant will crawl on top of it, there will be a click, a buzz and your screen will beat a hasty retreat. The causes of data corruption are rich and varied, it could be all the kicking and the dropping and the coffee spilling, or it could be any one of the following:

Bad exits from Windows. There are several conditions under which this occurs e.g. if the user switches the computer off or resets it without shutting down properly, if the shutdown process fails in some way, if there is a power cut and the computer resets on its own or if the computer freezes or locks up so that shutdown is impossible. This type of crash is usually in accordance with sane file management; therefore the only data corruption observed will be the interruption of sane file operations. The only damage visible should be incorrect free space count, lost cluster chains and possible incorrect file lengths.

Hard drive disk defects. Hard drive failure comes in various guises: 1) sudden catastrophic failure, which occurs when a drive can no longer be seen by its operating system. This kind of failure requires clean-room facilities and expert know how in order to repair it. 2) Head crash - heads touching and damaging the surface of the disk 3) pollution of the air inside the sealed drive unit 4) general surface wear often goes hand in hand with pollution of the sealed air inside the drive unit. It could be that the air filters malfunction or seal up or it could be that the unit was opened; perhaps debris was spread during a head crash. Whatever the reason, dirt has got into the unit and is wearing on the disk. 5) Spurious bad sectors.

Another hard disk defect is gradual disk failure. When a certain sector in your computer becomes unreadable its contents are copied to a spare sector (one of many that your computer has) and retains its physical sector address. This process is completed before the sector has failed completely. Once the sector can no longer be read then it is possible that silent data loss can occur. Only when all the spare sectors have been used up or when a defect is too severe to be repaired, all of the bad sectors will become visible to diagnostics. It is therefore preferable to replace the first bad sector while it is still under warranty.

Other flaky hardware. If something is capable of corrupting the data in RAM, it is capable of corrupting the hard drive contents. Examples of this include: 1) bad RAM 2) bad processor fan 3) over-clocked PCI bus 4) Data cables that are too long or too old or generally in a bad condition 5) overheated or poorly grounded hard drive 6) flaky motherboard, hard drive controller and processor. Failures of theses kinds can result in corrupting what is written to the disk as well as corrupting where things are written to the disk. Neither of these is particularly good news to a computer owner.

It is recommended to try and prevent the pain and hassle of hard drive corruption by running a disk defragmenter every 3 months to keep it in good condition. In addition to this you should try to move your computer as seldom as possible. If you have to move it, it is best to repack it in its original packing materials to protect it during the move. Remember to back up your data on a regular basis and lastly, and very importantly, don't drop it.

Removing Common Errors on Your Computer

Written by oneself on 9:58 PM

By: Thomas Haddelin

Ever get annoyed when you start your computer to find errors preventing you from using your computer properly? Have you ever seen the dreaded "Blue Screen of Death"?

Most errors on your computer can be caused by spyware, malware, and even viruses. Most of the time we get this simply by installing a "Free" program off the Internet.

Most spyware comes from "Free" programs we find on the Internet. Often they mention they contain spyware in the license agreement which most people fail to read or understand.

Viruses come in all shapes and sizes, and usually come from infected software or websites we use and visit. More often than not our virus scanner will sound alarms when we try to use infected software or try to open an infected website.

Malware is usually installed secretly without our knowledge. Most of the time it comes from websites or programs that have it.

Spyware, Malware, and Viruses can slowly destroy your computer. A good virus scanner can help, but it doesn't eliminate all forms of malware and spyware.

Having an up-to-date virus scanner does help, but often the scanner can't remove all types of spyware. Usually another program is required to actually remove the spyware.

Bug Doctor is one of those programs. It was designed to help virus scanners remove these spyware and malware threats from your computer.

Stop getting mad about your computers errors, and start fixing them with Bug Doctor. Bug Doctor is guaranteed to fix your computers errors, regardless of the error.

Ultra Sleek Cell Phone Sony Ericsson K610

Written by oneself on 1:56 PM

prabakar

The Sony Ericsson introduced new cell phone Sony Ericsson K610. This mobile phone comes in a few fantastic colors including a beautiful metallic red. It is a phone which you would be proud to own and its features are also pretty fantastic too. One of the smallest 3G phones available today, this phone has a very easy to use keypad which is created using metal. There is a nice backlight behind the keypad which lights up when there is a message coming through or when an incoming call is being received. This helps to ensure that you do not miss a call. Many people will like this mobile phone due to how easy it is to control it. It is not difficult in any way and the keys work instantly as soon as you touch them which means no more sore fingers from having to press down so hard.

The 262k screen provides crystal clear images and videos and the fantastic 2 mega pixel camera ensures that any images you want to capture are also crystal clear and a pleasure to view. The Sony Ericsson K610's five-way joypad is easy to use and dedicated front keys give instant access to internet or music. The camera, music and video functions are straightforward enough. The Sony Ericsson K610's camera doesn't give the best results, and the screen doesn't help. Video calling is relatively clear. Streamed footage is watchable, but can be subject to freezing and pixelation. Those 3G speeds make accessing the mobile web quick and easy.

If you like to regularly check your e-mails then the Sony Ericsson K610 mobile phone will allow you to keep on top of them whilst you are away from your computer. Also, another unique feature to the phone includes its flight mode where you can press it whenever you are on a long haul flight. You will still be able to check the calendar, listen to your music and even check e-mail still too. So even if you do have to go on a flight it will still not stop you from checking your e-mails.

Overall the Sony Ericsson K610 mobile phone is an all round impressive phone with some pretty handy features. You can download games, music and ringtones to the phone as well as making use of the fantastic MP3 player which is built into it too. The Sony Ericsson K610 is a candybar handset with a classic design that could appeal to business users. It's a light and compact 3G phone but still feels solid and substantial in the hand.

Many of the features depend upon which operator model you plump for. However, the Sony Ericsson K610 does pack 3G , a two-megapixel camera, video calling and streaming, and a music player. A MemoryStick M2 card slot allows for expandable storage. The Sony Ericsson K610 offers 420 minutes' worth of talktime - pretty impressive for a compact 3G phone with so much to cram in. Nokia's New E series Phone Nokia E61I PDA

Written by oneself on 5:57 AM

By:Prabakar, S

Nokia gives latest design cell phone Nokia E61i. The first thing you may notice is the Nokia E61i sheds the all-silver casing for a little less stuffy silver-and-mocha brown color scheme. Curiously, there are some controls and components of the phone, such as the power button and volume rocker, that are made out of a grayish-white plastic that seem out of place and detracts from the overall attractiveness of the Nokia E61i. As far as size, the smart phone carries the same large footprint as its predecessor at 4.6 inches tall by 2.7 inches wide by 0.5 inch deep, but it's a tad heavier at 5.3 ounces (vs. 5 ounces). The aluminum chassis gives the handset a solid construction, but it's a bit awkward to hold and use as a phone since it has a wider body, like that of a PDA. The Nokia E61i's display remains the same as the E62's, but that's not a bad thing since the 2.8-inch screen is large and bright, with a 320x240 pixel resolution and 16-million-color output.

Text and images looked excellent, and even better, it was still readable in sunlight; you can also adjust the backlighting, contrast, and theme. Just be aware that it's not a touch screen, so keep this in mind as you're shopping around for your new smart phone. You still get the standard Talk and End buttons, two soft keys, and shortcuts to the main menu and e-mail. However, Nokia has now added a quick-launch button to your contacts as well as another key you can program to open any of the phone's applications.

In addition, replacing the Nokia E61i PDA's joystick controller is a more traditional five-way navigation toggle with a central select button. It's very similar to the one found on the Nokia E65, and we found it to have its pros and cons. Starting with the good, it's easier to use the large select button on the Nokia E61i rather than having to press in a tiny joystick. On the flip side, the outer band that gives you scrolling capabilities is pretty thin, so you have to make a concerted effort to touch just the edges to move up and down or left and right, while trying to avoid the much larger center select key. Users with larger thumbs may also have problems with the four shortcut keys, as they're bunched closely together. The Nokia E61i's full QWERTY keyboard features some minor changes as well.

There's more spacing between the buttons, and most all of the keys have a square shape to them. They're large and have an almost rubbery texture to them, so there's no worry of slippery buttons. Overall, we thought the keyboard was an improvement over the Nokia E62's and had no problems typing out e-mails or text messages. We also found the tactile response to be interesting. It feels soft almost cushiony and springy when you tap the buttons, unlike some of the other QWERTY devices we've tested, which has a harder, clicky feel to them. We had a slight preference for the latter, since the E61i required a little more pressure when pressing the keys. Please purchase online www.phoneandbeyond.com

How to Stop Prank Calls

Written by oneself on 6:40 AM

It can be irritating to receive prank calls and you wonder how you can stop prank calls especially for the repeated ones. Imagine this with me. You are having a good sleep on a weekend night and waiting for the next day to arrive to spend a good day with your family and friends. All of a sudden, in the still of the night, you receive a call. Who could be calling? A sense of urgency immediately wells up within you and you rush to the phone. Upon picking up, you realized that it is a prank call. And throughout the night, you wake up on and off a couple of times not wanting to miss out that call in case it really is an emergency. You have become a victim of prank calls.

How does that sound to you?

Irritating and frustrating indeed. You probably are thinking at the back of your mind how good it is if you know how to stop the prank calls. So here is how.

How to stop prank calls?

While the scenario may not be what you have gone through, but I am sure we all get prank calls from time to time. If it is once, then it is pardonable and can be ignored. If it is repeated, it becomes harassment and we need to stop them. There are 2 solutions hiring a private investigator or using a reverse phone number search service.

Obviously, a private investigator can help you to get to the bottom of things. You probably would be able to locate the caller and report him or her to the police or at the bare minimum, give the person a earful. But such a course of action requires you to fork out a few hundred bucks. It may not really be worth the effort and money.

The other option is to use a reverse phone number search service. There are 2 alternatives here. One is a free, and the other a paid alternative. Let me explain more. Free reverse phone search directories are able to help you only if the call is from a landline number. In other words, if the call is from an unlisted number, VoIP number or a hand phone, there is no way you can trace that call. Sad to say, many pranksters know that and often use a cell phone to call.

So your best bet is to go to a paid reverse phone number search service to trace those prank calls. They charge you a small fee since it takes a great deal of effort and infrastructural investment to maintain a database of all the unlisted, VoIP and mobile phone numbers and the details of their owners. You can find details of practically all phone numbers including landline numbers. The search is easy at these services. Simply key in the area code and then the 7 digits after that and you get all the details about the phone owner.

After you have gotten hold of that, it is time for some sweet “vengeance”. This is what you can do. Wait for the prankster to call again, and address him or her by name. You can almost imagine the shock on his or her face. All the time, this trick would get them to never make prank calls to you again.

Let us say that there are some die hard pranksters who refuse to give up. What you can do is to make a police report with the details you have on hand and let the law enforcement deal with them. This would effectively stop all those nasty prank calls.

If you are keen to learn how to stop these prank calls with reverse phone number search, you can try doing a search at my phone search blog.

Boost Your Web Site Traffic - 14 Benefits Of Keyword Optimization

Written by oneself on 10:38 PM

Having a top search engine ranking is like money in your pocket. However, search engine optimization is an ongoing challenge for companies and individuals who want to drive more traffic to their sites. One of the best ways to boost your search engine traffic is to populate your site with optimized content. Here is how to create it: with a keyword optimization tool.

Keyword optimization tools perform three extremely valuable functions that are hard to find anywhere else:

a. They suggest variations on your selected keywords that you had not yet thought of yet

b. They tell you how often each keyword is actually being searched for daily on the World Wide Web (note: the higher the number of searches, the more valuable the keyword)

c. They reveal how many competing Web sites feature the keywords you want to use (note: the lower the number of competing Web sites, the more easily your site will make it to the top of the rankings)

You can perform keyword optimization yourself by using any one of a number of free or fee-based tools, easy-to-use tools. I recommend starting out with a free tool like that available from Overture (do a search on your favorite search engine to find it). Another option, once you get the hang of things and want to go pro, is to try out for free the leading keyword optimization tool, Wordtracker®, at: http://www.Wordtracker-Free-Trial.com/

If you do decide to use a fee-based tool (which I highly recommend), the investment you make in a subscription will likely pay off in just a few days of use: making educated guesses about what people are searching for is no match for taking your advice from a keyword optimization tool. And, in addition to finding keywords for creating optimized content for your Web sit, you can use your subscription to a keyword optimization tool to do a whole bunch of other value-adding activities, such as:

1. Embed your Web pages with optimized keyword meta tags

2. Write successful articles that get ranked on the first page and above the fold of top search engines and position you as an expert in your field

3. Do preliminary product or service testing: see what people are thinking about and looking for in different product areas

4. Write better, more eye-catching and successful ads for online ad sites

5. Write blog titles that get more attention for your already-chosen topics

6. Get ideas for new blog topics

7. Find out what terms people are searching for in general and use the terms in your traditional, offline media such as brochures and newspaper ads

8. Write subject titles for opt-in e-mail campaigns that get people’s attention because it is what is already on their minds

9. Test which words to use for a new content Web site you are considering creating in order to generate income from Google AdSense ads

10. Try ideas for various product or service names to see what is hot and what is already taken

11. Look for popular keywords and try to extrapolate microtrends upon which your business could capitalize

12. Optimize your Pay-per-Click advertising campaigns, in terms of both ad title and keywords bidding

13. Etc., etc., etc.!

Creating optimized content for your Web site is one of the cornerstones to boosting traffic to your site. A keyword optimization tool is a no-brainer decision for getting you the optimized content you need.
