Dell LTO-4 Tape Drive And Tape Library

Written by oneself on 4:43 AM

By: Tape4backup

Dell LTO4 tape format features the encryption (device level) technology which helps it to in protection of the data stored incase if the machine is misplaced, stolen or lost in a remote location. Dell LTO-4 backup media technology gives increased hardware protection with physical capacity of 800GB per cartridge (native) and 120Mb/s of native speed. All these powerful features help to alleviate overhead of administration and the backup windows are also shortened up in comparison to the LTO3 tape devices. The advance and effective features of Power-Vault Dell LTO4 tape libraries and drives make them ideal for data rich backup storage applications that require superior performance and high level of protection. Dell LTO-4-120 tape drive having double data density and has the powerful features of its predecessor.

LTO-4-120 Dell Power Vault tape drive is version of the LTO-3 110T tape drive having double data density and has the powerful features of its predecessor. In addition to all these unique features, the LTO-4 Dell tape drive also has an internal buffer (256MB) that reduces the rewind & fill times of LTO data cartridge and also enhances data access speed. Scalability of the secure data storage enterprise solutions is enhanced through Dell LTO-4 Power Vault tape libraries that have automated mechanism that are designed specifically for lowering the administrative overhead and streamlining daily work operations.

Dell Power-Vault ML-6000, TL-4000 and TL-2000 tape libraries support encryption at drive level and offer native recording capacities of 321TB, 38.4TB, and 19.2TB respectively. These Dell LTO4 tape devices have features of data protection that are built in the devices. These features include on site copies of data backup in order to prevent data loss and the WORM feature creates data records that cannot be neither be altered nor changed. All the key technologies include native 4GB per second fiber channel connectivity, barcode inventorying, SAS interfaces (3GBps) and user friendly interface that result in automated and simplified backup storage operations. Dell TL-2000 tape library provides powerful and cost effective backup operations. Power-Vault TL-4000 is an extendable version designed for mid-range growing organizations. Dell ML-6000 tape library provides superior scalability and provides the facility of on demand non-disruptive extension with modules that enables easy and simple customization. During the speeding resolutions, the failures are isolated and forecasted by the intuitive wizards and intelligent diagnostics.

Dell LTO-4 has mechanisms of “digital speed match” and accelerated cycle times of unload and load for synchronizing with the server’s data transfer speed. These features facilitate in optimizing data throughput, data resource productivity and data tape longevity. Data is considered as one of the most important and valuable asset of the company. Archived data occupies most of the storage environment’s overall capacity therefore, it is important that cost effective, efficient, reliable, secure data retrieval and data backup systems must be implemented. Data storage companies must secure and protect the data irrespective of its location and during transit so that they can comply with the rigorous service level agreements (SLA) and legislative mandates. Records that are unrecoverable or lost no matter if it is measured in expense, public image or time are very costly for the organizations. Selecting the most ideal and suitable medium for data preservation and validation of document authenticity is very critical.

Dynamics GP former Great Plains Implementation Outlet

Written by oneself on 6:41 AM

by Andrew Karasev

If you are looking for new ERP, replacing small business accounting (Peachtree, Small Business Financials, Quick Books) or walking away from ERP application, which no longer fit (Great Plains Accounting, or DOS based systems); if you are not happy with current Dynamics GP Great Plains implementation: data conversion, import, integration, user training, customization and reporting - please free to call for second opinion. In this small publication we would like to give you typical Dynamics GP ERP implementation steps and projects:

1. GP modules selection and software licensing. Current Dynamics GP licensing for new customers is Business Ready, where you are getting the either Business Essential or Advanced Management set of modules. For existing Dynamics GP customers you can maintain module based licensing (former Great Plains Standard and Professional lines). Annual Enhancement program is required, current name is Business Ready Advantage Plan 18% of the software pricelist - this is minimal required plan for the first year

2. GP Implementing steps: Business Processes mapping, initial data conversion, user training, reports design (SOP Invoice form, Purchase Order, etc., FRx Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss statements), entering beginning balances in GL and switching to production mode

3. GP Integration projects. Here you typically deploy Dynamics GP Integration Manager (in initial data conversion or for ongoing integration), or in precise custom scenarios - eConnect programming. Data integration for custom add-ons could be done via Dynamics GP macros

4. GP customization projects. Here you are facing programming tool dilemma: GP Dexterity, VBA with Modifier, eConnect, Extender, Web Services, SQL Stored Procedures, VBA scripting in Integration Manager

5. GP advanced reporting. If you are going beyond FRx financial reports and Report Writer modified reporting, please review SSRS (Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services), Crystal Reports, Dexterity reports

6. GP precise user training. This process typically is your setting and data driven and should be done by your Dynamics GP consultant

Dynamics GP Partner News: Great Plains 10.0 installation issues

Written by oneself on 1:14 PM

by Andrew Karasev

If you are trying to install Microsoft Dynamics GP version 10.0 or upgrade in-house from earlier version of Great Plains Dynamics ERP, please read this small publication to get orientation. GP version 10.0 installation and upgrade is very sensitive to your Windows XP or Vista settings and OS service packs applied. In our unofficial opinion, if you are trying to keep corporate IT policy, sticking to Windows XP Professional and not allowing Vista Business or Ultimate, Windows XP SP3 is often the source of problems, consider staying on XP SP2 instead. The issues might be related to .Net Components 2.0, that seems to be needed for Great Plains Dexterity 10.0 - these components tend to be replaced with newer version: 3.0 or 3.5 if you are purchasing brand name computer from Dell, Compaq or HP. Also known issues about XP Service Pack 3 - you cannot install SQL 2005 client on it (the work around is to uninstall SQL 2005 Native Client and in some case Office 2003 Components).

Let's move on to installation highlights:

1. Dexterity Components prerequisite installation failure work around. If you are loading Great Plains on Windows 2003 Server R2, chances are very high that you will get the error message on prerequisites. There is no way to get it resolved, but download from Microsoft Dynamics GP Partner or Customer Source SkipDotNetCheck.mst and DexSkipDotNetCheck.mst files and command to install Microsoft Dynamics GP in command line. Please, call your Dynamics GP Reseller or Microsoft Business Solutions directly to get these files and scripts

2. GP 10.0 installation on Vista. Here you have to disable or turn off User Account Control. Great Plains version 10.0 is compatible with Vista 32 and 64 bits

3. Upgrading to Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0. Here you have Service Packs puzzle. If you are on GP version 8.0, please apply GP Service Pack 5. If you are on GP 9.0, apply Service Pack 2 or 3. Then apply GP 10.0 Service pack 2 or higher and you are now ready for Great Plains version update from 8.0 or 9.0 to 10.0. Again, if you only have Great Plains Dynamics GP CD 10, there is no work around, but appeal to your Great Plains Reseller to get appropriate service packs

4. Dynamics GP 10.0 New Security Model. In earlier versions of Great Plains Dynamics: 9.0, 8.0, 7.5, 7.0, 6.0, 5.5, 5.0, 4.0, 3.2 you had user access and user class access rules, based on GP objects: windows, tables, alternative and modified alternative windows and reports. In GP version 10.0 security is redesigned to be based on Operations, Tasks and Roles. Dynamics GP 10.0 upgrade process has work around, allowing you to transform users and users classes old security to named users security roles in GP 10.0. Also, if you are small organization, you could probably afford to work without security and assign all your Great Plains users to Poweruser role

I Use My TV As a Computer Monitor, You Can Too

Written by oneself on 4:38 AM

By Jan Kdo

Using the TV as the monitor screen is a good option. Your good old TV screen can come at your rescue when your monitor of the computer is creating trouble. Or you can even find the TV screen good enough for viewing the movies or while playing the games you may want to watch the game on a much large screen. You will have to follow some steps while you are using your TV as a computer monitor.

The steps needed for converting the TV as computer monitor

You will first have to recognize the connections of input of the TV. Generally the TV has either the input of coaxial cable or RCA composite input or connector of S-video. But the modern inputs found are those of HDMI, DVI, Component Video, and VGA. You can find the types of output for your computer which are developed which are very well-suited for TV and thus it is not difficult to clip to the TV input. The S-video is becoming more common these days on the computers. After all these now you have to get the adapter that is apt for your system connections.

A wireless adapter is a great choice even though the charges are more as it helps sidestep the cable troubles. But if you are not ready for wireless ones you can select adapters which will have provisions for VGA adapter, RCA composite or S-video. You will find them very much beneficial. Now you have to connect the TV with the computer. If your computer system is having the S-video jack which is compatible with your computer, your job is reduced to some extent. Get the cable of S-video and next you will have to link it to the computer and the TV.

But when your system is not supporting S-video jack then you can use the adapter by connecting the cables of Component Video or RCA to the TV and on the other hand use the VGA ending to attach to the computer. You shall now check that the input for the video of your TV is right. The connections are now set. Next you have to start the TV and see whether the signal of the computer is available.

Problem with the signal

You can be let down with the signaling on the TV after the connection is complete. As we know that the computer's signal is measured by pixels, but the signals of TV is different from that. The resolutions for the TV is also different from that of television. So you will see that about 640x480 resolutions are available. You may not be happy with the resolution that is being offered by TV but you can obviously do your work rather than not being able to do your task at all. This problem can be solved to some extent if you select a HDTV adapter but for that you will have to pay much more price and also you will need HDTV.

How to Multi Task With Your Netbook

Written by oneself on 10:25 AM

By John Kessler

Netbooks users use their netbooks primarily for basic computing functions like internet surfing, files downloading, and typing and other office functions (spreadsheet, presentation, etc.). But did you know that you can organize your life with your netbook?

If you are using a Windows XP netbook, you should know that the sized-down XP for netbooks comes handily with a Microsoft Works Task Launcher, which allows you to schedule appointments, plan events and track projects. The task launcher is something that you cannot find in Windows XP for desktops and laptops.

To use Microsoft Works, simply click on the Start menu, go to programs and then click on the program.

Calendar, Forms And Then Some

When you get right down to it, Microsoft Works is really nothing more than a planning suite composed of the following:

* date planner
* templates for different kinds of letters
* ready designs for brochures, cards and databases (like recipes)
* tracking sheets
* journal forms
* travel planning tools
* address finder
* map directions
* car rental finder, and
* room reservations

You can use many of these features without an internet connection, except for the address finder, map directions, car rental finder, and room reservations features. Having all those planning tools accessible under one program may seem heady at first, but Microsoft Works is indeed useful for any busy body.

All About Getting Organized

While netbooks may never be as portable as PDA's, having all those forms and sheets in ready form does make life a lot easier. Now you don't have to create a form, design a greeting card, or write a cover letter, from scratch.

Microsoft Works in netbooks is especially useful for people who like to initiate new projects, love to travel or organize travel groups, or simply like to plan their life. The best things about is that Microsoft Works interfaces with MS Office programs like Word and Excel, so it really IS very easy to use.

This planning tool is one of the many reasons why you should buy a netbook. But, of course, it is not all there is to netbooks. Small, portable and relatively cheap, netbooks are perfect tools for consumers with basic computer needs.

Netbooks And Your Life

From ASUS, netbook manufacturers now include Acer, Lenovo, MSI, Hewlett-Packard, and MSI. Most netbooks operate on Windows XP and different versions of Linux. Still, a few models with hybrid hard drives are using Windows Vista.

Hybrid drives combine the best of Solid State Drives (SSD) and Hard Disk Drives (HDD) in one compact form.

In choosing a netbook, one of the primary considerations is your lifestyle, that is, do you need a lot of storage space? Depending on the kind of hard drive, most netbooks pale against desktops and regular laptops in terms of storage space. SSD netbooks are notorious for having low storage capacities, unlike HDD netbooks that can stores up to 160GB of information. However, SSD netbooks tend to be shock-proof, that is, information is still readable even after an impact, unlike HDD netbooks.

The Asus 901 - Is It Really As Great As It Seems?

Written by oneself on 6:54 AM

by Troy Winters

Asus's latest release named the Asus 901 is a great little nifty laptop computer.

The Asus Eee PC 901 is essentially a suped up version of the earlier Eee PC 900 with better styling. The casing is much more sturdier than its predecessor. The edges are much smoother and the hinges are more solid in their actions.

The Asus EEEPC 901 is a lot less 'square' like the previous one. The 901 is definitely more durable and ready to take on hard knocks with its new design. Yet, after all this, the screen is still 8.9 inches with a great 1024x600 resolution.

The keyboard is exactly the same as the previous version. However, the keys are wide enough to use your fingers with ease. However, it would be better to use a standard keyboard when writing for long periods of time.

I would recommend keeping minimal items open when watching a video. The processor along with "no moving parts" inside the casing, also results in a cool computer while letting you get on with your strenuous tasks. The small slits (vents) cuts down the decibles, leaving the Asus Eee PC 901 working as a silent operator.

The connectivity options on the Asus 901 include wifi networking and bluetooth as standard. The other stuff, such as the battery pack, make the EEC 901 fractionally bulkier than its counterpart at 1.1kg, although it's hardly noticeable. In fact, it's negligible.

If you buy the Linux version of the Asus 901, the operating system will boot up incredibly fast compared to the Windows XP version. It will beat it by about 19 seconds and that is a great way of saving time. The display shows off some pre-installed items on tabs: Work, Play, Learn, Settings, Internet and Favourites. You get the standard links which are provided to major sites such as Yahoo.

Skype (the telephony application) is also a part of the software installed and it works with the 1.3 megapixel small camera (plus microphone) allowing for video conferencing. The "Work" tab leads to any of the OpenOffice programs; The Learn tab leads to a resource of educational programs (good for kids). in my opinion, the best feature is "Play" which houses all your Games, Photos, Music, Videos, Webcam and Sound Recorder software.

Overall, the Asus EeePC 901 has a user friendly display. In fact, it's so easy to use, Asus have gotten rid of the technical manual. Have you ever wondered what the EEE stands for in the model name? Easy to Play, Easy to Work and Easy to Learn (as demonstrated by the tabs). If you prefer the Windows XP version, you can simply buy it with XP pre-installed or you can install it on your own your choice.

The Asus 901's battery life (6-cell Li-Ion, 6600 mAh 7.4V) gives outstanding performance which is generally something found in the large 1000 models. The processor is also better; the previous 900 MHz Intel Celeron gives way to the more powerful and energy efficient 1.6GHz 'Atom', noticeably giving beter performance with more workload.

The Asus Eee 901 is available at a great price for under $440 (or even cheaper by the time you read this). Taken as a whole, the Asus Eee PC 901 is better value for money compared with the larger 1000 model.
