Wireless speakers work by sending an FM radio signal through the transmitter that is connected to the computer to the speakers, which may or may not be located in the same room. The FM signals are not stopped by walls and ceilings, so you are not limited as to where you can place your wireless speakers, except that they cannot be so far away that the signal doesn't reach them. Obviously, if you need the speakers to be further away from your computer, you are probably going to have to spend more money to get a model with a stronger transmitter. If you are using your speakers in the same room as your computer, you can settle for a more inexpensive model with a weaker transmitter.

There are wireless stereo speakers available that can work with computers too, but not all models of stereo speakers will be compatible with your computer. If you want to use stereo speakers, it's important to do your research first to make sure they will work because it is often difficult to return electronic items. To be safe, it is a good idea to stick with wireless speakers that were designed to be used with computers.

Wireless computer speakers usually operate at about 900 MHz. This may cause problems such as feedback if you have other electronic items in your home that operate on the same frequency. You should either make sure you are buying speakers that use a different frequency than your cordless phone or that allow you to adjust the frequency. Baby monitors can also cause conflicts with wireless speakers.

Most companies that make wireless speakers manufacture them so that they can use either batteries or an AC adaptor. If you are going to be using your speakers in a location where you will not be able to plug them in, it is important to make sure that the model of speakers you are buying can be operated from batteries.

Your wireless computer speakers can give you the flexibility of being able to use your computer to play music in another part of your home or even outdoors without dragging your computer to the location where you want the music. They can also help free up some of the cord mess that surrounds most computer stations.
