Motherboards also contain a clock generator which is responsible to produce the system clock signal that can help in synchronizing various components. The cause of a bad motherboard could be in any of the components. It is best that the job is assigned to an experienced and technically qualified person or a reputable dealer or the manufacturer of the board.

It is mostly better if you replace the bad motherboard with a new one. It is extremely expensive to repair an old motherboard. You should compare the price of repair to the purchase of a new computer.
